On May 15-17, the International Advanced Battery Frontier Technology Seminar (CIBF2023) hosted by the China Chemical and Physical Power Industry Association was grandly held at the Shenzhen International Convention and Exhibition Center.

On the morning of the 15th, Dr. Liu Xingjiang, the President of the conference and Chief Scientist of China Electronics Technology Group, delivered a speech. Subsequently, Professor Jeff Dahn, Academician Ouyang Minggao of Tsinghua University and a world-class lithium battery scientist, Honorary Professor of Dalhousie University in Canada and Chief Researcher of NSERC/Tesla, delivered a speech at the conference. Next, Dr. Li Zheng, General Manager of Qingtao Energy, delivered a report titled "Industrialization of Composite Solid Electrolytes and Solid State Lithium Batteries" on behalf of Academician Nan Cewen of Tsinghua University.

Dr. Li Zheng pointed out that lithium-ion batteries have shown great application prospects in new energy vehicles, energy storage and other fields. With the rapid development of China's lithium battery industry in recent years, the situation is promising. However, due to the complex multiphase composite material system of traditional lithium batteries, it is difficult to find a balance among multiple constraints such as energy density, safety, cost, charging speed, and lifespan. With the increasing demand, the development of lithium battery technology mainly faces two major challenges: energy density and safety. Currently, it is difficult to further improve the capacity density and ensure safety along the traditional path of optimizing liquid lithium batteries. Driven by the market demand for high energy density and high safety, as well as the challenges of high performance and low cost, solid-state lithium-ion batteries have become a natural technological choice for the lithium-ion battery industry.

Solid state lithium batteries are the focus of attention in today's industry and a key focus of global battery technology research and development. The key to promoting the industrialization of solid-state batteries lies in the breakthrough of core material technology for solid-state electrolytes. Compared with various solid electrolyte materials, inorganic solid electrolyte materials represented by oxides, sulfides, and halides have outstanding advantages in ion conductivity, working temperature, etc. However, they face challenges in process molding and processability. Dr. Li Zheng presented in his report the research and experimental results of Tsinghua University and Qingtao Energy R&D teams in the fields of oxide, sulfide, and halide solid-state batteries, respectively. On the basis of summarizing the characteristics of various materials in the system, the R&D team proposed an organic-inorganic composite solid electrolyte as the R&D technology route. While maintaining the performance advantages of inorganic solid electrolytes, the process performance was improved through composite material design, thus providing the possibility for the productization of solid-state batteries.

Dr. Li Zheng further introduced the industrial layout path of Qingtao Energy's collaborative development in the key materials, core equipment, and innovative processes of solid-state batteries, the industrialization roadmap of third-generation solid-state batteries, and relevant practical cases of solid-state power batteries that have been commercialized for the first time. The measured data of passenger cars with a range of over 1000 kilometers and ultra high energy density 4C fast charging batteries were presented, respectively. At the end of the report, Dr. Li Zheng put forward directional views on the technological development trend of the lithium battery industry, including "less liquefaction", "high voltage platformization", and "low-cost". He hopes that the entire industry can provide more technical support for the development of the lithium battery industry through the upgrading of core material technologies such as solid electrolytes.

In the morning report session, Dr. L ü Xuelong from the Taiwan Lithium ion Battery Industry Association, Researcher Liu Xingjiang, Chief Scientist of CETC, Researcher Huang Xuejie from the Institute of Physics and Songshan Lake Materials Laboratory of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, world-renowned lithium battery scholar, Researcher from the French Research Center, Professor Michel Armand, Senior Scientific Advisor from the Spanish New Energy Research Center, and Researcher Xiao Chengwei from the 18th Institute of China Electronics Technology gave exciting themed presentations.

This seminar brought together authoritative experts, enterprise representatives, and industry institutions from both domestic and foreign sources to discuss the development, technological status, and latest scientific research achievements of the entire industry. More than 1000 representatives from more than 20 countries and regions attended the conference.
